McCain says it's too early to endorse Palin for 2012: report

Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain said Tuesday it was too early to endorse former running mate Sarah Palin for a possible 2012 presidential bid.

During an interview on CBS’ “The Early Show,” McCain said Palin would be an “outstanding candidate” but added that it was too soon to throw his support behind any potential contenders.

"I'm very grateful for all the things she's done to invigorate our party,” McCain said. “But I think it's very early to start picking winners and losers,” he continued.

The Arizona Republican also warned his party not to “take a victory lap ahead of time” when it came to next week’s pivotal midterm elections.

“Indications are that, as always, the Democrats have a very sophisticated get-out-the-vote operation,” McCain said. “We've got to get our vote out.”
