Mariah Carey Says Miscarriage 'Shook' Her: The MTV News Quote Of The Day

"The way it happened, so quickly at first, I didn't know what to expect. That was not easy. I've never really been a very forthcoming person about my personal stuff. It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult. When that happened ... I wasn't able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy."

-Pop music legend Mariah Carey, commenting on the revelation that she had a miscarriage two years ago. That news came on the back of the happier revelation that Carey is pregnant with her first child with husband Nick Cannon. In an interview with Billy Bush that first aired on "Today" and was then expanded on "Access Hollywood Live," Carey and Cannon talked about how they dealt with the issue. "It was emotional for both of us and that's when I saw the strength," Cannon said of Carey. "She handled it so well and then to get on the plane and have to spend Christmas with friends and family, it definitely brought us closer together. It strengthened our relationship so much ... she handled it so well."

The miscarriage is one of the many reasons why the couple have been holding off on revealing Carey's pregnancy to the world. But now that it's out, Cannon and Carey can enjoy the good will being bestowed on them. "It's a happy moment," Cannon explained on his radio show later. "I'm usually not at a loss of words, but it's been a good morning with all the congratulations and all that stuff."
