P-Square Complete N100 Million Mansion!

So the equation is finally complete; brand new home, brand new cars, it’s a brand new P. Square! According to their spokesperson, the Kora Award winners have just taken delivery of two Range Rover Sports, one X6 BMW and a Jaguar, all 2010 models which set them back a cool N50 million. Forbes' 400 richest people in America

It has been a year of reclamation for America's richest. The total worth of the Forbes 400 was up 8% to $1.37 trillion, well out-earning the 1% rise in the S&P over the same period of time. More than half (217) are richer than they were a year ago. The headline number tells a partial story. Just over one-third of the 400 failed to add to their fortunes or lost ground. Still far above us is the record of $1.57 trillion in total net worth set in 2008. But the very top of the list gained, as good friends Bill Gates and Warren Buffett were up $4 billion and $5 billion, respectively. They, too, are short of their personal highs. Gates, who in March lost his title of world's richest person to Mexico's Carlos Slim, is still America's richest person -- for the 17th year in a row. Student flies like a bird, powered only by himself

(Photo via Todd Reichert ) A Canadian university student has done what Leonardo da Vinci had only dreamt of: Piloted a human-powered "wing-flapping" plane! Called an ornithopter , and the inspiration for modern day helicopters, the machine was first sketched by da Vinci way back in 1485 and never actually built. Todd Reichert, an engineering student at the University of Toronto, made history by sustaining flight in his ornithopter -- named Snowbird -- for 19.3 seconds and covering 475.72 feet. Snowbird is made from carbon fiber, balsa wood, and foam. The 92.59 pound vehicle maintained an average speed of 15.91 miles per hour.   Human-Powered Flight from U of T Engineering on Vimeo .   Todd and his plane made the accomplishment on August 2, 2010, at the Great Lakes Gliding Club in Tottenham, Ontario. The crew kept the achievement quiet for nearly two months to get the data finalized. Todd and some 30 other students had been working on the plane for 4...

Knife removed from Brazil man's head after 3 years

SAO PAULO (AP) - A man in northeastern Brazil is recovering after surgeons removed a 4-inch (10-centimeter) blade that had been stuck in his head for three years following a bar fight. Edeilson Nascimento, a 29-year-old tire repairman, tells reporters Friday he is feeling great after the three-hour surgery earlier this week. He is expected to be released from a hospital in the city of Recife next week. Nascimento says he got into a bar fight in 2007 and was attacked by assailants when he returned home. At the time, doctors only removed the knife handle, fearing that pulling the blade from his head would cause brain damage. But three years of intense headaches led Nascimento to take a chance on the surgery.

Years later, bravery on a Laos mountain is honored

For decades, Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Richard L. "Dick" Etchberger's courage under fire was kept as secret as the mission that placed him on a remote Laotian mountain, high above the clouds, in March 1968. Now, his bravery that day can be written in stone. President Barack Obama on Tuesday posthumously recognized Etchberger for service "beyond the call of duty" by giving him the nation's highest military award, the Medal of Honor. Obama said those three words can now be etched into a granite monument to Etchberger's memory at Barksdale Air Force base in Louisiana. "Even though it's been 42 years," Obama said at a ceremony with Etchberger's three sons, "it's never too late to do the right thing and it's never too late to pay tribute to our Vietnam veterans and their families." Etchberger was part of a radar team that came under attack by North Vietnamese soldiers who had improbably scaled the he...

How to survive a wedding when you're single

Attending a wedding alone can be rough -- between partner-less slow dances and Aunt Gertie's questions about why you aren't married yet, it can be hard not to feel like a total loner. But the trick to enjoying a wedding while flying solo is as simple as adjusting your mindset -- and following these tips. Change Your Mindset "Human beings are, by their very nature, contrary; if you are trapped and told to have a good time, it's highly likely you will not," says Imogen Lloyd Webber, author of The Single Girl's Guide (Summersdale Publishers Ltd.). Basically, if you feel like someone is trying to force you to have fun, you won't. How to deal? Instead of likening a wedding to a Saturday night prison sentence, think of it as a chance for you to enjoy dinner, drinks, and dancing -- all on someone else's dime. Stalk the Guest List (a Little Bit) Just because you don't have a date doesn't mean there won't be anyone to party with. Do you...

Lohan goes directly to jail after failed drug test

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – There were no tears, no last-minute pleading and no lecture from a judge warning Lindsay Lohan she was facing serious consequences for her latest misstep in a 3-year-old drug and drunken driving case. Instead, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox on Friday sent a simple and stern message to the troubled actress — she was going to jail for nearly a month as promised for failing a drug test. When Lohan's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley asked to argue that bail should be set, Fox's reply was simple: "Nope." Bailiffs closed in and Lohan stood up. Her estranged father, Michael, said "Oh God," as she was handcuffed and solemnly led from the courtroom. Within moments Lohan was stripped of her designer high-heel shoes and jewelry and on her way to the county women's jail, where she will be held in an isolation unit. Her mother, Dina, carried the items in a clear plastic bag from the courtroom after the hearing. Lohan is due back i...

Sesame Street' Pulls Controversial Katy Perry Duet

Perry with Elmo at the show taping. Twitpic "Sesame Street" started previewing its 41st season on the Web this week, releasing teaser clips featuring stars like Jude Law , Will.i.am, Colin Farrell , and Run-DMC's Reverend Run. One of the shorts, however, got a lot more attention than the rest: a two-and-a-half minute video of pop star Katy Perry singing a reworked version of her 2008 hit "Hot N Cold" with Elmo. The issue: the perception that Perry's outfit wasn't appropriate for a show geared toward children ages one to six. After the clip hit YouTube Monday, Gawker ran a story that called attention to the video and Katy's look. Parents checking out the video began leaving critical comments like, "Couldn't she wear something that was more. oh idk. APPROPRIATE" and "I DO NOT want my five year old lookin at [that]!" But, as TMZ notes , Perry wasn't actually half-naked -- her outfit featured a flesh-color...

'50s pop singer Eddie Fisher dies at age 82

Pop singer Eddie Fisher, whose clear voice brought him a devoted following of teenage girls in the early 1950s before marriage scandals overshadowed his fame, has died at age 82. He passed away Wednesday night at his home in Berkeley of complications from hip surgery, his daughter, Tricia Leigh Fisher of Los Angeles, told The Associated Press. "Late last evening the world lost a true America icon," Fisher's family said in a statement released by publicist British Reece. "One of the greatest voices of the century passed away. Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh Happy Making $36,000 A Year Working For Amazon

One of the most striking Internet success stories in recent years is Zappos, the $1+ billion e-commerce business which was bought last year by Amazon. But, as is often the case, the Zappos empire was not created overnight.  Ten years ago, the online retailer known for selling shoes was actually desperate for sales.  It wasn’t until a young Tony Hsieh came aboard in 1999 -- as a business consultant and investor -- did that all begin to change. Hsieh’s unorthodox approach to company culture turned Zappos not only into a very lucrative business, but one beloved by customers and employees alike.  He was named CEO in 2000 and attributes Zappos’ success to sticking by the company’s core values, which were designed to make employees happy. “Our number one priority at Zappos is company culture.
