Obiano inaugurates farmers support initiative in Anambra

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Friday, inaugurated a Farmers Support (FS) Initiative, to eradicate extreme poverty among rural farmers in the state. Speaking at the occasion at Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area, Obiano said his administration had earmarked N300 million as loans for farmers in the coming farming season. Obiano, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Afam Mbanefo, expressed commitment to eradicating poverty through agriculture. He, however, urged farmers, yet to repay their previous loans to do so. He said participation of youths in agriculture had risen from eight per cent to 25 per cent since he became governor in March 2014. According to him, women currently occupy over 60 per cent of the farming population, with men coming below 40 per cent, pledging 100 per cent support for the project in the state. 2019: Investigate all electoral infractions now – PANDEF tells FG

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) on Friday called on the Federal Government under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, to immediately investigate all electoral infractions that took place during the 2019 general elections held on February 23 and March 9, 2019. While stressing that there should be no sacred cows in the investigation, PANDEF also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to bring to conclusion the process of collation of the Rivers State Governorship Election Results and the winner declared, so as to douse the political tension in the State. School feeding programme expands to more schools in Edo LGAs

Caterers to commence work next week The National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) has been expanded to include more schools in Uhunmwode and Orhionmwon local government areas in Edo State, beginning from next week. The State Focal Person of the Social Investment Programme in Edo State, Ms. Osayuwamen Aladeshelu, disclosed this while monitoring the distribution of start-up kits to caterers for the commencement of the NHGSFP in the two local government areas in the state. She said over 60 schools will benefit from the NHGSFP in Uhunmwode and Orhionmwon local councils, adding that over 261 caterers have been engaged and will earn daily income from the programme. INEC plans to cancel declared results in Bauchi, PDP alleges

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged moves by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel results already declared in the March 9 governorship and state assembly elections in Bauchi State. Bauchi is one of the six states where INEC declared the elections inconclusive, following the cancellation of results in the Tafawa Balewa local government area. Others states where the election was declared inconclusive are Benue, Kano, Adamawa, Sokoto and Plateau. INEC had fixed Mach 23 for supplementary election in the six states. At a media briefing in Abuja Friday, spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, cautioned the electoral body alleged attempts to tamper with the returned results or cancel already tallied results in 14 local governments, as declared by INEC. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has alleged the killing of several of its members, who refused to be compromised, during the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections by agents of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led state government.
